UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev retained his belt after beating featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 which took place on Feb 12 in Australia. Makhachev won the fight by unanimous decision and in doing so became the number one pound for pound fighter in the world.
Makhachev Accused Of Breaking USADA Rules
Dan Hooker who fought Makhachev in the past and lost has gone on Twitter to call Makhachev a cheat. Hooker claims that Makhachev used an IV to rehydrate himself after his tough weight cut.
The UFC no longer permits fighters from using an IV since they partnered with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in Oct 2015. Any fighter caught using an IV can face a ban up to 24 months.
Hooker tweeted “Dumb c**t thinks he can fly to Australia, hire a nurse to give him an IV and we won’t find out. Cheating dog!”.
Hooker’s accusations were backed by Volk who told MMA journalist Ariel Helwani that he wants a rematch with Makhachev and said Makhachev can get as big as he wants with IVs but the result will be different the next time around!
