English fans attending the Elite Hockey League game between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers on Oct 28 at the Utilita Arena Sheffield were left in shock after Panthers player Adam Johnson went down in a heap after colliding with Matt Petgrave who played for the Steelers.
The collision turned out to be tragic for the 29 year old Johnson as the skate boot of Petgrave slicked the neck of Johnson and ended up killing him. Fans who saw the video of the accident commented that Petgrave should be arrested for manslaughter.
Police Arrest Petgrave On Suspicious Manslaughter Charge
Yorkshire Police immediately launched an investigation into the incident but made no arrest. However on Nov 14, the authorities confirmed that they had arrested a suspect on a suspicious manslaughter charge over the death of Adam Johnson. As per the law in England, the authorities did not name the suspect.
Det. Chief Supt. Horsfall once again put out a request to fans and the community at large to not indulge in speculation and slandering on social media as it would only hinder their investigation. As of this writing, there was no statement released by Petgrave or the Sheffield Steelers.
