Toronto billionaire Michael Andlauer paid close to $1 billion to acquire the Ottawa Senators in November 2023. The Senators are one of the most popular teams in the NHL and were expected to make it to the playoffs this season.
It’s still early in the season but things haven’t gone as per plan for the Senators who are currently 9-10 this season and sit at the bottom of the points table. GM Pierre Dorion was sent packing in November and now Senators fans are calling for head coach D.J Smith to be terminated.
Andlauer Needs To Learn More Before Making Decisions
Andlauer said he understood the angst of the fans but said he isn’t going to make any long term decision in haste as he has only taken over the Senators for the last couple of months and needs to spend time studying the team and understanding what are the areas of improvement.
Andlauer stressed the point that whatever decisions he makes it has to be in the best interests of the Senators in the long term and not just be beneficial for the immediate future. The Senators are yet to find a new GM.
