The popularity of football in Canada continues to increase after the men’s national team qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the increase in popularity is helping the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The CFL saw its popularity and fan base drop when the COVID-19 pandemic hit as the CFL had to cancel its 2020 season. The 2021 season took place but with a reduced format and interest waned in the CFL. However, once Canada qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after 36 years, football fans once again started tuning into football games in Canada.
CFL Will Look To Add 10th Team
The CFL recently confirmed that it had registered an increase in TV ratings for its regular season which went up by 11 percent. Live ticket sales has already increased by 3 percent which further confirms that Canadian football fans are once again showing their support for their favourite teams.
The CFL is currently made up of 9 teams and is looking to expand and add a 10th team. CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie has stated they have opened talks with a potential owner for a new team in Atlantic Canada.
