Hockey Canada, the national governing body for hockey in Canada has been under immense pressure for the last few months to sack its leadership team for mishandling a sexual assault complaint.
The leadership team at Hockey Canada tried to sweep the sexual assault complaint under the carpet by dishing out a financial settlement and trying to silence the victim. When Canadian media made the country aware of what was happening, Hockey Canada suffered a massive backlash.
Hockey Canada To Get New Leadership Team
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and Sports Minister Pascale St-Onge called on the leadership team at Hockey Canada to resign for failing to carry out their duties responsibly. However, the executive board and CEO Scott Smith did not yield to the pressure to resign but continued to hold on to their posts claiming that they wanted to make amends.
Hockey Canada started taking a massive financial hit as a number of their key sponsors including Nike and Scotiabank. With pressure continuing to grow with every passing week, CEO Scott Smith and the entire board have decided to resign.
Hockey Canada will now look to appoint a new leadership team as they look to turn a fresh leaf and regain trust with the general public.
