UFC 291 will take place on July 29 in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Delta Center. This pay per view card will be headlined by a Main Event featuring Dustin Poirier vs. Justin Gaethje who will be fighting for the BMF (Bad Mother F****) belt!
The first time that Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje fought turned out to be one of the most exciting fights in UFC history and that was back in 2018. Poirier ended up winning by TKO and will go into this fight as the favorite again. However, things are quite different 5 years later as Gaethje is a much more patient fighter and has learned from his mistakes!
Jorge Masvidal To Give Up BMF Belt
The BMF belt was sanctioned by the UFC during a fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz back in Nov 2019. UFC President Dana White said the BMF belt was a onetime ordeal and it made sense given the veteran status and resumes of Masvidal and Diaz.
Nate Diaz is no longer part of the UFC and Masvidal has since retired, which is why the UFC has decided to put the BMF belt on the line for Poirier vs. Gaethje 2 as both have extremely impressive resumes. Jorge Masvidal will be at UFC 291 as he asked White to give him the opportunity to wrap the BMF belt around the waist of the winner of Poirier vs. Gaethje 2.
