Manchester United continue to be one of the most popular football clubs in the world, even though they haven’t won a Premier League championship for over a decade. The last time Man U won the Premier League was back in 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was the team manager.
The Red Devils which are currently owned by the Glazer family who are U.S based have struggled over the last decade to be consistent and Man U fans have been very critical. Man U decided to put the club up for sale over a year ago and fans were hoping that a UK citizen would be able to regain ownership and turn the fortunes of the club around.
Jim Ratcliffe To Buy 25 Percent Stake
Man U have now confirmed that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe will buy a minority stake in the club that could go up to 25 percent. Ratcliffe is expected to pay around $1.6 billion in total for his 25 percent stake and $300 million from the total will be used to upgrade the Old Trafford football stadium.
Ratcliffe will be required to pay $200 million when the deal is completed and another $100 million before the end of 2024. The sale is currently awaiting approval from the English Premier League.
