South Korean Sensation Joins Spurs Midseason with High Hopes
South Korea’s football prodigy, Yang Min-Hyeok, embarked on a journey from Seoul to London on Monday to officially join Tottenham Hotspur. The 18-year-old winger, signed from Gangwon FC on a contract running until 2030, is set to unite with national hero Son Heung-Min at the Premier League club.
Originally slated to join Spurs in January, Yang’s arrival has been fast-tracked, adding excitement to an already thrilling season for Tottenham fans.
“It’s an honour to have this opportunity to play alongside Son,” Yang shared with reporters at Incheon International Airport before his departure. “I’ve dreamed of this moment and can’t wait to show what I’m capable of.”
A Shared Journey with Son
Though separated by 14 years, Yang and Son have crossed paths before. Yang played against Tottenham in a July friendly while representing a K League All-Star team. By September, he earned his first call-up to the South Korean senior squad, sharing training sessions with Son.
Despite their national team connection, Yang is yet to make his senior international debut. “It feels surreal to think I’ll soon share the pitch with someone I’ve looked up to for so long,” he added.
A Record-Breaking Start
Yang’s performances for Gangwon FC this season have been nothing short of spectacular. With 12 goals and six assists in 38 matches, he set a new record as the youngest-ever scorer in K League 1 history just before his 18th birthday.
His dynamic playstyle and sharp finishing make him a valuable addition to a Tottenham side grappling with injuries.
Focused on Success
Yang admitted feeling a mix of excitement and nerves ahead of his 14-hour flight but channeled his energy into preparing for the challenges ahead. Watching Spurs’ emphatic 5-0 victory over Southampton at 4 a.m. South Korea time, Yang said it motivated him further.
“I’d love to get on the pitch before the season ends and contribute with a goal or assist,” Yang stated. “I’ve been prioritising rest and recovery to ensure I’m ready to hit the ground running when the time comes.”
With his arrival timed just before the January transfer window, Yang won’t be eligible to play until the new year. However, the young winger is confident about his readiness for the Premier League.
“I’m eager to perform well and hope Spurs fans will support me throughout this journey,” he said.
The Future Beckons
As Yang steps onto one of football’s biggest stages, his story serves as an inspiration for young players back home. With raw talent, determination, and the mentorship of Son Heung-Min, Tottenham’s latest signing could be on the verge of something truly special.
Spurs fans, brace yourselves—Yang Min-Hyeok is ready to take flight.
