The UFC returns to Sydney, Australia after a 6 year hiatus as UFC 293 is set to go down on Sep 9 at the Qudos Bank Arena. Australian fans were left in limbo as the UFC announced the pay per view card a few weeks earlier but did not announce a Main Event!
Israel Adesanya Will Defend Middleweight Championship
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will headline the card as he defends his belt against no 5 ranked Sean Strickland. The UFC were initially trying to book a Main Event between Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis who was in line for a title shot but the South African fighter said he wasn’t ready to fight in September.
Adesanya called out Strickland once he learned that Dricus du Plessis wasn’t stepping up to fight him in Sydney and the UFC has given the middleweight champion his wish! Adesanya will enter his 11th consecutive title fight and goes in as a big favorite!
Tai Tuivasa Will Be Part Of The Co-Main Event
Aussie heavyweight and fan favorite Tai Tuivasa will fight Alexander Volkov in the co-main event! Some of the other Aussie and Kiwi fighters on the card include Justin Tafa, Tyson Pedro and Kai Kara-France.
